1966-2002
Became embodiment of
UC Davis Baseball during legendary 36 year coaching career. Led
program to 902 victories to rank seventh in NCAA history. His
teams won eight conference championships, competed in six NCAA
West Coast Region Tournaments & advanced to 1995 NCAA College
World Series in Montgomery, Alabama. Coached 580 league
victories while UCD competed within Far Western Conference,
Northern California Athletic Conference & California Collegiate
Athletic Association affiliations. Selected as 1995 West Region
Coach of Year by American Baseball Coaches Association. Strong
instructor mentored 14 NCAA All-Americans while 31 players
signed professional baseball contracts after his tutelage.
Hundreds of student-athletes benefited greatly under his
guidance and leadership as part of overall UC Davis educational
experience. Driving force behind planning, fund raising &
construction of James M. & Ann Dobbins Baseball Stadium where UC
Davis Baseball teams have competed since 1986.
